Christmas Salt Dough Ornaments

After years of telling myself that I was going to make salt dough ornaments with my nieces, we finally did it! Now that Princess Buttercup is older, her hand is a lot bigger than it would have been years ago…but that is okay! We still had fun making them and she loved being able to contribute to the Christmas Tree ornament collection.

Apparently making salt dough ornaments is incredible simple. All we needed was flour, salt, and warm water! We found the recipe for them at wholefully.com! Ours were a lot thicker than they should have been because all we had was a teeny-tiny rolling pin. The thickness caused them to puff up a bit and they definitely needing longer in the oven. Lesson learned! To cut out the hole for the twine, we just used a basic straw and it was the perfect tool. Easy peasy.

After we kneaded, rolled, cut, and baked them - we let them cool off and we painted them and sealed them with Mod Podge. She was able to hang them on the tree the very next morning!

For our first time, these came out better than I had expected! Even Uncle Mr. San Diego got in on the action and turned the gingerbread man into his version of Chewbacca. We all had fun making these and now Princess Buttercup wants to make even more ornaments. Luckily the ingredients are cheap!

merry christmas! xoxo
